Enrichment Writers' Workshop

Congratulations to Kaitlyn. The following story was chosed for publication in the Burlington Free Press, Young Writers' Project.
The Lurking Creature
By Kaitlyn

My little sister Jocelyn was playing in her outside, colorful playhouse. Our family was enjoying the summer day. Our back yard used to be forest so we had to watch out for creatures. My sister was carelessly playing in her playhouse and then it happened. The animal went under our fence. It was limping and it went right into my sister’s playhouse. Everything went silent. Only my sister didn’t seem to notice. We could hear the wind. We were too frightened to scream. If we did, we might upset the raccoon and it might have rabies.I could smell and taste blood. I realized I had bitten my lip as my family watched in fear. But, it did not bite my sister. It lurked past her and went towards my mom. It ducked right under her legs and finally went into the woods. What a relief!
Congratulations to Olivia for being selected for publication in the Burlington Free Press Young Writers' Project.
Blue Name Blue Eyes
By Olivia
My boy is a small one,
I call him my bluebird,
I call him this name for his eyes.
I have never seen such a brilliant shade of blue
His eyes thrash like the ocean,
and sing like the birds.
They rain and cry like the open sky.
I call him my bluebird.
I call him this name for his eyes.

Twilight Ends
By Hattie
As the sun is fading down behind the mountain tops
Twilight has ended
The sky fills with dusk entering the sky
No moon No sound
Nothing
The speechless twilight
in the blue summer night’s sky
Is saved for people
And Saved for hope
Wrapped in a note of the blue endlessness of twilight

Sky
By Elizabeth
The sky is magical
It shines like the sun
It sparkles like the sea
But the best thing about the sky
Is that it is a blessed color
It is blue
It has all different shades
During the day it is exotic light blue
At twilight it fades to navy
The worthy navy alternates to sapphire blue
By the twinkling stars and the lively moon
Day after day the beautiful system happens
But still it never gets monotonous

Blue
By Julia N.
Some think blue brings sorrow
Some think blue brings happiness
Blue brings everything to me
Blue is the color of tears
Blue is a light and bright color
It represents both happiness
and sorrow for some people
Which blue are you?

Blue
By Alexis
A feeling like no other.
Depressed.
When you are blue, you tell it to shoo,
but it doesn’t listen.
It stays for a while.
It comes, slams you in the face,
and then leaves after what feels like,
a million years.
Blue
By Nate
Blue: a fading color in night sky.
The night's watery black hands have swept up the blue sky
and taken it for its own.
Now the blue is gone in the abyss of black.
The blue is ready to rid the black and take its home.
Piercing the black as it comes broiling and writhing to its sanctuary
.
Blue
By Saachi
I feel like glue when I am blue.
Gloppy, icky, sticky glue
that is crying microscopic tears of blue.
Soon the tears will turn my glue blue,
as it soaks into my sticky body of white glue.
Nobody will notice my icky blue body,
for I’m just an itsy bitsy
piece of blue glue.
